Moving the cannonballs update: On Decluttering & Growing

For wrapping up the month of August, my blog post is a Moving the cannonballs update: On Decluttering & Growing! With the Labor Day Holiday a week away, should you be finding yourself with a little extra time on your hands, this post may be of help in encouraging you to continue onward with the quest of decluttering!

If you are new to my blog you may not be familiar with the term moving the cannonballs. My first post on the term was back on October 19, 2015, ‘moving the cannonballs’.

About the three household plants in my photo: from Exotic Angel Plants Collection

I’m so excited to be attempting to grow a few house plants! In addition, I’m seeing the benefits of continuing to declutter.

It is a joy to rediscover my three-piece set of Vietri small cachepots on a tray which is perfect for a few small house plants. It is now beautifully sitting on one of my bookshelves in my analog study with the sun from the plantation shutters. I’ve had it for probably 25 years at this point, picking it up at one of the Vietri warehouse sales back then. It was a sample.   Finding the spot for it I owe to brainstorming with my local professional organizer, one of the things we were able to accomplish from our session this week. Thank you, Melissa!

All three of the plants I was able to get at my local Lowe’s: Purple Waffle (medium-light), Curly Locks Ivy (also medium-light), and Pearls and Jade Pothos hybrid, prefers low light.

Furthermore, they are from their Exotic Angel Plants Collection.

On decluttering & growing

One of the big ah-ha eureka realizations for me this week has been rethinking what I put into the breakfront in the dining room. In realizing I could put the china IN it and relocate other items I was storing making room for it I’m now able to easily get to the dishes instead of getting on a ladder to reach a very tall shelf in the kitchen.

Just as I have probably heard it so many times, it is true about putting items with easy access and I’m more likely to then use them.

With Labor Day approaching, I’m going to be making a sweep through my stationery again at my letter writing area. Once again, making sure what is in arms reach is there and easier to access.

I’ll see you back here on Wednesday to kick off the month of September 2021! In the meantime, here’s to seeing things in a new way and continue decluttering – and attempting to grow a few plants!
