On November 11th Veterans Day 2017

November 11th means our blog post topic is Veterans Day 2017.

First, you’ll want to visit online The National WWII Museum New Orleans with their list of events for today. As of writing today’s post, their site begins with “From the first shots of the Revolutionary War to the men and women serving our country today, this nation owes an immeasurable debt of gratitude to our veterans. Join us as we say thank you to all our vets, who will receive free general admission to the Museum….”

Second, it is nice reading November 2017 is “National Veterans and Military Families Month” over at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, here is an excerpt.

For 98 years, Americans have remembered those who served our country in uniform on 11 November – first as Armistice Day, and then, since 1954 as Veterans Day. In this 99th year of commemoration, the Department of Veterans Affairs is broadening that tradition of observance and appreciation to include both Veterans and Military Families for the entire month of November.”

Third, on this occasion of Veterans Day 2017, the Wreaths Across America (WAA) is a site to mention. At some WAA locations, they can place flags on Veterans graves on Veteran’s Day and are permitted to leave them up in order to assist with their wreaths placement in December.

If you have a Veteran or a loved one wanting to remember at one of 1200 WAA participating locations, please visit the Wreaths Across America website. Also, there is the Air Force Academy Wreaths Across America.

One can donate to have a wreath placed in their honor. For several years I’ve participated with this after first becoming aware of it by my dear friend Ellen, one of My Three Muses. It was approaching my first Christmas without my Dad and I’ll never forget receiving a tag sharing a wreath had been placed in his memory during their National Wreaths Across America Day. I’m closing out today’s blog post with the same closing from last year.

Saying Thank You seems inadequate for expressing the depth and gratitude to our military veterans given all of their sacrifices but nonetheless please accept this sincere Thank You!

Helen
