The Washington Press – More Perfect Union First Day Cover Set

With today being Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we are looking at the More Perfect Union First Day Cover Set. The offering is by The Washington Press. I’m seeing this More Perfect Union First Day Cover (FDC) Set which includes one cachet commemorating Dr. King, Jr. I’m showing below.

The Washington Press

Back on October 26, 2018, The Washington Press announced closing their business after 85 years. Their latest November 14, 2018 update shares they are not accepting any further sales. The reason I’m blogging about it is to capture the existence of the More Perfect Union First Day Cover Set they have been offering.

Furthermore, over at The Link last January, there is an article – King among men – which includes the following:

To Form a More Perfect Union. In 2005, the great orator’s quote and portrait were featured on a pane of 10 37-cent stamps that recognized those who fought for civil rights. King was associated with most of the events illustrated, including the Greensboro lunch counter sit-in, the Montgomery bus boycott and the Selma to Montgomery march.”

The 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott stamp is on the cover of the cachet image I’m including. “It is one of 10 To Form a More Perfect Union offerings from 2005.”

More Perfect Union FDC Set – Set of 10 with 8 Different Postmarks

“The USPS offered First Day cancellations from eight different cities when it issued a souvenir sheet of 10 stamps (#3937a-j) commemorating milestones in the Civil Rights Movement. This set of ArtCraft First Day Covers includes all 8 of the August 30, 2005 postmarks matched to the appropriate stamps. Included are Washington, DC; Greensboro, NC; Little Rock, AR; Montgomery, AL; Jackson, MS; Memphis, TN; Topeka, KS; and Selma, AL. The ArtCraft cachet on this set of ten FDCs features Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the 1963 March on Washington.”

Here is a listing of my posts written each year honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day
