Out of Office: A Travel Podcast Interview Smithsonian National Postal Museum with Director Elliot Gruber

You are going to LOVE listening to the Out of Office: A Travel Podcast Interview Smithsonian National Postal Museum with Director Elliot Gruber from Tuesday earlier this week.

First, it is a real treasure to listen to their interview. Secondly, I’m in amazement they just began their podcasting in 2018! Their interview with all things philately is during the first 35 minutes of the 43-minute podcast. And be sure to keep it going after they wrap up that portion of the podcast, to enjoy them sharing about a restaurant in Peru!

Out of Office: A Travel Podcast Interview Smithsonian National Postal Museum with Director Elliot Gruber

Among the stories the Out of Office: A Travel Podcast discusses in this episode with the Smithsonian National Postal Museum, it includes the Inverted Jenny, Owney (I’ve got two links to previous posts on the postal dog extraordinaire below), and Hope Diamond.

“This week on Out Of Office, Kiernan talks to Elliot Gruber, the director of the Smithsonian National Postal Museum. The boys nerd out about philately (that’s no adverb) and taxidermied mail dogs (okay just the one.) Plus, Peru’s best restaurant.”

Furthermore, we learn why Britain is the only country that does not have its country name on its stamps.

Also, he shares about the over 3000 stacks of mail on The Titanic, [make that The RMS (Royal Mail Service) Titanic!] with over 3000 stacks of mail that were en route.

Learning about the different shapes of items sent through the mail includes the delivery of a beehive.

The forward-looking planning is great to hear about 2025 is the 250 Anniversary of the Post Office!

To summarize, Director Gruber knows his Postal History. I love hearing him share their model for the National Postal Museum is to “expect the unexpected”. My hats off with cheering for the interviewer, Kiernan Schmitt, who really did their homework beforehand researching. Also, I loved the exchanges with him and Ryan Davis at beginning and ending of the podcast.

About Out of Office: A Travel Podcast

“Out of Office is a travel podcast hosted by us, Ryan Davis and Kiernan Schmitt. From early childhood, we were each infected with a serious case of wanderlust (among other things.)

We define travel broadly, from local day trips to high-flyin’ overseas adventures. Each week, we dig into one topic—ranging from the serious to the silly, the practical to the outlandish—and give advice on how to get out there and explore the world.”

My Congratulations to their having already 32 podcasts to date beginning in 2018!

Have fun exploring and listening to their podcast. See you tomorrow for my Saturday blog post.
