O Henry The Gift Of The Magi & “A Die Hard Christmas”

Today’s post is an interesting combination of topics beginning with O Henry The Gift Of The Magi short story.

In addition, today’s post includes mentioning a new book that came out in October 2017. It is true, they actually have made the movie into a book: A Die Hard Christmas: The Illustrated Holiday Classic” – more on that at the end of today’s post.  Epiphany Three Kings Day Christmas Magi Stamp

O Henry The Gift Of The Magi

Earlier this year, back in January, we looked at my post “Epiphany Three Kings Day Christmas Magi Stamp” with it being the 12th day of Christmas, January 6th, 2017.

The story begins with “One dollar and eighty-seven cents. That was all. And sixty cents of it was in pennies. Pennies saved one and two at a time by bulldozing the grocer and the vegetable man and the butcher until one’s cheeks burned with the silent imputation of parsimony that such close dealing implied. Three times Della counted it. One dollar and eighty- seven cents. And the next day would be Christmas.” ….

From my January 6, 2017, post:

“But in a last word to the wise of these days let it be said that of all who give gifts these two were the wisest. O all who give and receive gifts, such as they are wisest. Everywhere they are wisest. They are the magi.” ― O. Henry, The Gift of the Magi

If you haven’t gotten around to ever reading the short story by O. Henry here is a link to The Gift Of The Magi.  And if you have read it, go ahead and get a hot cup of chocolate, tea, or coffee and enjoy reading it again!

Now about that new book “A Die Hard Christmas: The Illustrated Holiday Classic”

The description starts off as “All John McClane wants for Christmas is to reunite with his estranged family… Based on the classic “Night Before Christmas” poem and filled with whimsical illustrations, this cleverly reimagined homage is destined to become a holiday classic. …”

As much as I love seeing Bruce Willis in the movie “Die Hard” get the bad guys, I have yet to see the entire movie. There are certain scenes I always close my eyes at to avoid viewing. In one of the sample pages for this book, there is a scene which includes a splat of red ink for blood – which finds me running the other direction!  To their credit, on the description of the page is this disclaimer: “*Contains adult material including violence and strong language. Reader discretion is advised. Ho-ho-ho.”

In conclusion, you never know though, you could still be trying to decide on “that” perfect Christmas present, and now are off to get O Henry The Gift Of The Magi short story!
