If you happen to find yourself in Greenville, NY this weekend the Upcoming Typewriter Arts Festival looks worth checking out!
Over at the Typosphere website there is a fun article about the upcoming Typewriter Arts Festival this weekend.
“First Annual Typewriter Arts Festival to be Held at The Greenville Drive-In Saturday, June 11.”
“[Greenville, NY] The Greenville Drive-In presents The First Annual Typewriter Arts Festival Saturday, June 11 beginning at 6:30pm. Festival highlights include a live performance with The Boston Typewriter Orchestra, screening of the documentary The Typewriter (in the 21st Century), a display by local artists using the medium of typewriters, and a display of vintage typewriters. The Greenville Drive-In is located at 10700 Route 32 in Greenville, NY.” …
Given the event is including a Double Feature with screening of the documentary The Typewriter (in the 21st Century) and Screening of the French romantic comedy “Populaire” I’ve included brief YouTube here of each.
The TypeWriter
This movie, The Typewriter (in the 21stCentury), I first blogged about over a year ago, on May 3, 2015, “Typewritten Letters (USB optional)“.
In the Upcoming Typewriter Arts Festival article referenced above it describes the movie as – “In May of 2010, filmmakers Christopher Lockett and Gary Nicholson read an article on Wired.com about the last generation of typewriter repairmen. Casual conversation over coffee turned toward the inevitable conclusion—a great documentary. This is the first local screening of this fascinating film.”
From the YouTube description: “The Typewriter (In The 21st Century) is a film about a machine and the people who use, love, and repair it. It features 30+ interviews in 10 U.S. states with authors, collectors, repairmen (and women), bloggers from The Typosphere – an online gathering place for typewriter enthusiasts worldwide – artists, musicians and inventors. …”
“Populaire”
It is described in the article as “French romantic comedy – A typewriter plays a key role in the storyline of the second film in this double feature.”
In looking around for more information on the movie loved this description from Wikipedia – “The film’s title is taken from the name of the typewriter (Japy Populaire) used in the film. Populaire tells the story of Rose Pamphyle (Déborah François), who is trained by Louis Échard (Romain Duris) to become the fastest typist in the world through winning the 1959 internationalspeed typing contest in New York City.”
Thank you for joining me today! Time to go put some paper into one of my typewriters and dash off a letter!
