The 1983 USPS 20 cent Volunteerism stamp is perfect for today’s blog post for National Volunteer Week 2017. The week long event began on Sunday, April 23 and runs through Saturday, April 29th.
“This stamp was issued to pay tribute to the millions of Americans who give of their money, time, and even possessions in order to help their fellow man.”
Here is a link to my blog post from last year, National Volunteer Week 2016, “This annual event was started in 1989 in President George H.W. Bush inaugural address and is sponsored by the Points of Light.” This is the link to PointsOfLight.org.
National Volunteer Week 2017
Given this is during the same month as National Letter Writing Month, I do like to have a tie in with letter writing and volunteering suggestions.
This week with looking for volunteer opportunities it could be something as simple as volunteering to a friend that you will write a letter to their parent who is transitioning to living in a retirement community. There is something about receiving mail in a new location with a welcoming message that really does help.
I’m closing with the same sentiment I closed with last year. For those of you who are volunteers reading my blog post today please know you do make a difference and are appreciated!
Anchors Aweigh,
Helen
