This morning I was struck by how windy it is – and paused, of course! It’s the month of March and time for Kite Flying! Some of my favorite photos are from everyday life – where we have paused to stop and enjoy the here and now. Have you ever made a kite from scratch? I recall making one growing up and the adventure of what to use for its tail. I am motivated to get outside this month and try it – even if the winds are gusty!
These Kite Festivals were included in my search results:
- There is a Kite Festival on the Grounds of the Washington Monument Washington, DC scheduled for Saturday March 28th, 2015, the last Saturday in March, Free Admission.
- The Town of Cary, NC is having a Kite Festival on March 21, 2015 (Rain date: March 22) at the Fred G. Bond Metro Park.
- In November, the Cape Fear Kite Festival is held the 1st FULL weekend in November, location: Fort Fisher State Recreation Area, Kure Beach, North Carolina, weather permitting.
- Be sure to see if there is one planned in your area!
No mention of kite flying is truly authentic without calling to mind the classic tune from Mary Poppins: “Let’s Go Fly A Kite”! Won’t you join me in this quest to fly your own kite? Whether your kite is ‘store bought’, made from a kite-making-kit or do-it-yourself the smiles will be contagious and you’ll have some new memories to share! And don’t forget your camera!
