Did you see the Upcoming Two cents postage decrease announced this week?
Happy Saturday and welcome to Year 2 here at AnchoredScraps.com! Thank you for all the well wishes I received yesterday with my One Year Blogging Anniversary and Thursday’s 365 Daily blog posts.
Upcoming Two cents postage decrease announced
The upcoming two cents postage decrease announced was on Thursday and is to be effective April 10 for first-class letters. Thank you to my stamp club friend, Jimmy, for sharing this with me!
Over at Linn’s Stamp News in their Postal Updates it shares the details of the Cost of first-class letter to drop to 47¢ effective April 10. The article shares it being the third time there has been:
“a general reduction in postage rates,” according to the Alliance of Nonprofit Mailers.
The two other rate reductions came on July 1, 1885, when a 2¢ reduction in the price of a letter was ordered, and on July 1, 1919, when a World War I 1¢ “exigent” surcharge was removed, according to the alliance.”
That Linn’s article goes on to describe how the Postmaster has pleaded with Congress and the courts to continue the emergency rate increase but has not been approved. It also gives the list of affected rates in addition to the first-class letters dropping to 47 cents from 49 cents.
Mary Poppins and Tuppence
This talk of two cents postage decrease brings to mind the beloved movie Mary Poppins and the children taking their tuppence to the bank and causing a bank run. One of my dear blog reader subscribers here is a big bird watcher and so here we are with Mary.
Happy Saturday to you! See if you don’t go around today singing Mary Poppins songs! Who knew we could tie Mary Poppins in with Upcoming Two cents postage decrease announced! Join me tomorrow for my Sunday blog post.
