Baseball Players Fan Mail is our Sunday blog post today with two stories: one of a baseball player answering his fan mail 15 years later and one of a person who gathered nearly 8000 home addresses to use in requesting autographs guide book.
The weather here was perfect to go to a baseball game yesterday, add that to seeing my collection of Major League Baseball All-Stars Stamps from 2012 and the combination results in today’s blog post Title: Baseball Players Fan Mail.
Baseball Players Fan Mail
There is an article, The Autograph Man, from 2006 about how a box of fan mail had gotten put into a box at the time of the baseball player moving and it then being found 15 years later – the story continues with how wonderful to read they were answered upon them being discovered in the garage. It shares how to properly write a fan letter request for a baseball players autograph and is a joy to read. The article is written by Bryan Curtis who is the fan who received the letter from Don Carman, a left-hander with the Philadelphia Phillies. It is well written and I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read and enjoy. He has even included a photo of the autographed baseball card.
The second article I wanted to share is from 2009 about how Mr. Jack Smalling ended up with nearly 8000 home addresses for major leaguers for “The Baseball Autograph Collector’s Handbook” in the article entitled Want Baseball Autographs? This Man Can Help. At the time of the article it was promoting the 15th Edition, and the most recent link I found promotes the 18th Edition. It goes into detail of the process for validating the addresses and public resources used. The address list came about to help other collectors send their requests to players too.
Here’s to an enjoyable Sunday and more baseball!
