Honoring Sally Ride Forever Stamp 2018

On May 23, 2018, the USPS was celebrating the Sally Ride Forever Stamp Dedication Ceremony. The First-Class stamp is in a pane of 20 with one design. In reading about the stamp for writing my post today, I found out she was a stamp collector!

“America’s first woman in space, Dr. Sally Ride (1951–2012), inspired the nation as a pioneering astronaut, brilliant physicist, and dedicated educator.”

Sally Ride Stamp Collector

“…Ride, who first launched into space on June 18, 1983 aboard the space shuttle Challenger, was herself an avid stamp collector, her partner of 27 years Tam O’Shaughnessy, said in a statement provided by the United States Postal Service.

“Sally started collecting stamps when she was a girl, and she continued to do so her whole life — especially stamps of the Olympics and space exploration,” O’Shaughnessy said…”

In addition, I’m including this four-minute tribute video from USPS TV which made its debut at “… the First-Day-of-Issue ceremony, prior to the revealing of the Sally Ride Forever® Stamp at the University of California, San Diego on Wednesday, May 23, 2018.”

Furthermore, there is a twenty-nine-minute video on the dedication ceremony.

If you are waiting on the stamps arriving at your local Post Office, they are available for ordering online. While there check out the Sally Ride T-shirt; I’m envisioning it as a real Wonder Woman T-shirt to wear!

Anchors Aweigh,

Helen
