On this Saturday morning, we talk about the new Bugs Bunny commemorative Forever stamps. There are to be 10 designs.

In addition, I’m including two scenes from two classic Bugs Bunny movies – Long-Haired Hare, and What’s Opera, Doc?

Furthermore, since we are not seeing the ten designs yet, I’m hoping they may include from these two movies. Below we will be reading pre-ordering opens on June 29th.

Long-Haired Hare

First, we are beginning with this scene from Bugs Bunny Long-Haired Hare 1949 movie.

From Wikipedia Long-Haired Hare

“During the concert’s final act, Bugs poses as the highly respected Leopold Stokowski, prompting the musicians, Giovanni, the conductor, and the audience to immediately snap to attention, show reverence, and acknowledge him with repeated astonished cries of “Leopold!”, as Bugs takes over the conducting duties and the original conductor respectfully hands the reins of the performance over to him.”

What's Opera, Doc?

In case you are trying to recall, I’m including this brief excerpt from Wikipedia What’s Opera, Doc?

“The story features Elmer chasing Bugs through a parody of 19th-century classical composer Richard Wagner’s operas, particularly Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung), Der Fliegende Holländer, and Tannhäuser. It borrows heavily from the second opera in the “Ring Cycle” Die Walküre, woven around the typical Bugs-Elmer feud. The cartoon marks the final appearance of Elmer Fudd in a Chuck Jones cartoon.”

“After the usual “hard to get” pursuit, they perform a short ballet (based on the Venusberg ballet in Tannhäuser), capping it off with the duet “Return My Love” set to another section of the Tannhäuser overture as the pair meet at a gazebo. Bugs’ true identity is inadvertently exposed when his headdress falls off, enraging Elmer.”

Upcoming Bugs Bunny 80th birthday stamps July 27

Earlier this week, The USPS National News carried the article New Stamps Celebrating Bugs Bunny’s 80th Birthday Coming Soon to a Post Office Near You”.

“The U.S. Postal Service will issue commemorative Forever stamps celebrating Bugs Bunny’s 80th birthday. The Postal Service and Warner Bros. Consumer Products are excited to dedicate these stamps at a virtual ceremony on July 27, the 80th anniversary of Bugs Bunny’s official screen debut.

Bugs has always been known for his impeccable impersonations and his masterful masquerades, so the soon-to-be-revealed 10 designs on this pane of 20 stamps each showcase a costumed Bugs Bunny in some of his most memorable getups.”

Also, there is Linn’s article Postal Service to issue 10 stamps celebrating Bugs Bunny’s 80th birthday”.  I’m not seeing any artwork yet however, beginning June 29 we can begin pre-ordering them at USPS Postal Store

Before wrapping up, it is fun seeing the 1997 Bugs Bunny stamp and this first-day cover showcasing it.

I’m remembering the set of USPS postcards with 1997 Bugs Bunny stamp. It was among the class handouts selection I was providing at my first WordCamp presentation, 2016. Recently I came across one of them I kept for a personal copy.

Join me tomorrow for post #1950. This means then just 50 days away from #2000 daily blog posts here at AnchoredScraps! Here’s to a great Saturday!
