What mode of transportation eventually replaced most of the dog sleds for carrying mail in Alaska?
It is one of the questions I came across in writing this blog post. I invite you to come along with me in taking the first three online quizzes over at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum. This is part one of my two-part blog post on them and their other three quizzes we will wrap up with on Sunday.
The National Postal Museum will be reopening on August 27th, 2021. In the meantime, it is fun exploring the many online items they are making available including these quizzes.
Today we are looking specifically at the U.S. Stamps Quiz, Beginner Postal History Quiz, and the Advanced Postal History Quiz
You’ll want to go over to these three links at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum, and I found printing off each of them a great way to then have for making notes on it after I took the quiz and scored myself. At the end of each quiz is a link to view the answers.
Furthermore, it was question number 7 from the Advanced Postal History Quiz that inspired today’s blog post title.

It was just yesterday I printed off these first three quizzes and took them. As you can see from the image I’m including from grading myself – you will probably do better than I did on them! You’ll have to let me know how you did! There were several questions that I did get correct and I’m crediting that in part from being on items I had written about here at different times during the past six years.
Here are some suggestions for when you take the quizzes. First, do not overthink the question. Second, go with your FIRST answer – again do not overthink it. And third, have fun taking it!
