8,385 Jelly Beans

Today on AnchoredScraps.com our focus is on jelly beans! If while you are out today getting candy for Easter Baskets, I’d like to put in a good word to include some jelly beans.

If you recall there was an episode of the TV show where “Mr. Monk Goes to the Carnival” from Season 1. In it Sharona’s son wants two dollars for a contest to win a boom box if a person can guess how many jellybeans.   Without hesitating Monk replies: 8,385.   Sharona asks Monk if he has already seen the jar to which Monk shakes his head. Then how can you guess if you haven’t seen the jar she asks him.   He tells her “… that as they walked into the carnival there was a pile of garbage. In that pile of garbage he saw six jellybean boxes that contained 1,400 jellybeans, which means that there were 8,400 beans. He assumed that the person who ran the game ate some, and so guessed that there were 8,385 left. There were actually 8,377 in the jar, but it was close enough.”   The son won the boom box.    Thank you to Comprehensive Episode Guides: Monk Trivia (on twitter @episodeguides) for the method for calculation quote!

“You can tell a lot about a fellow’s character by his way of eating jellybeans.” ― Ronald Reagan

The photo upper left corner I took today and it contains four pounds of Jelly Belly 49 flavors from Costco.

Today the Easter cards that I mailed out earlier in the week should be arriving to family and friends.   Special hugs are extended here to a dear friend (and email subscriber to my blog) who called me this morning recognizing it will be my first Holiday without my Dad and knew those first few Holidays without your family member can be hard.  It was such a gift  and much appreciated!

Tomorrow we will be concluding our Easter themed week here on AnchoredScraps.com.  If your plans are to start tomorrow with a sunrise Easter service I know it will be great!  Wishing everyone a peaceful evening.
