“Rocky & Bullwinkle Savings Stamp club”

Saturdays and recalling classic cartoons will include episodes of a famous moose and a flying squirrel.  Their character voices will immediately come to mind when thinking of them.  Today we are looking at this You Tube I came across of the Rocky and Bullwinkle Savings Stamp club.

Back on June 1st my blog post was on “Stamp Day for Superman” (1954) so to come across seeing another promotion for Savings Stamps is fun to share.

The write up on Rocky and Bullwinkle Show on Wikipedia is very thorough and worth reading.

Honoring Jay Ward

In addition it was great to read about the Jay Ward Legacy Exhibit.   Attribution: Image shown upper left is of the Rocky and Bullwinkle statue from “The Paley Center for Media, The Jay Ward Legacy Exhibit“.  (On Twitter @paleycenter).  From that article: “The Jay Ward Legacy Exhibit features over sixty pieces of rarely seen artwork, sculpture, and memorabilia from Jay Ward Productions—shows including Rocky and His Friends, The Bullwinkle Show, Peabody’s Improbable History, Fractured Fairytales, and Aesop and Son, DreamWorks Animation’s feature film Mr. Peabody & Sherman, and the new Rocky and Bullwinkle short film, a bonus feature on the Mr. Peabody & Sherman3D Blu-ray. The Rocky & Bullwinkle statue that once stood on Sunset Boulevard from 1961–2013 also resides in the main foyer of the Paley Center during this exhibit.”And there was this Tweet by David Derks (On Twitter @dderks) with a full view of the statue. (Image on right).

In this article from March 16, 2015 entitled “Rocky & Bullwinkle Statue Set to Return to the Sunset Strip” by Bianca Barragan it talks about the beloved statue paying homage to the moose and flying squirrel that first went up in 1961 and more recent activity with it.    “In 2012, DreamWorks Animation acquired the rights to Rocky & Bullwinkle, and it turned out they were the ones who scuttled the statue away in 2013; they performed some repair work on “a severe crack” and the statue reappeared in October 2014 at the Paley Center in Beverly Hills as part of The Jay Ward Legacy exhibit there. … Ward’s daughter worked with DreamWorks on the restoration, and she joins the animation house in donating the statue back to WeHo…”

Be sure to check out Hokey Smoke! Rocky & Bullwinkle site by Jonathan K.   It “is a fan based site made for my love of Jay Ward’s wacky cartoons. I discovered Rocky and Bullwinkle in my youth, but I never lost the fascination for the series. The wit, corny jokes, puns, and social satire hit my funny bone in no other way a cartoon has before….”   This is the quote I remember the most and delighted to see it included on their Funny Quotes page.  Their Episode List of “The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle” brought back a lot of memories!

Bullwinkle: Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.
Rocky: Again?
Bullwinkle: Presto!
Lion: ROAR!!!
Bullwinkle: Oops, wrong hat.

Thank you to BrianRetro for his Rocky and Bullwinkle Stamp Club You Tube posting, @paleycenter, @dderks, Bianca Barragan, Wikipedia, and Jonathan K with Hokey Smoke! Rocky & Bullwinkle site who are referenced in today’s blog post.

In closing today’s blog post this quote is perfect:

Bullwinkle: Well, if you can’t believe what you read in a comic book, what can you believe?

May we continue to be young at heart and embrace these characters – definitely something to write home and/or your friends about them!

Helen
