Alan Jay Lerner Letters

Today with it being Sunday and being able to slow the pace down a little I wanted to mention a book I have ordered about Alan Jay Lerner Letters, it is entitled: Alan Jay Lerner – A Lyricist’s Letters by Dominic McHugh published in 2014.

With all of the rain we have been having the expression “April Showers Bring May Flowers” seems fitting and with thoughts of rain I end up with “The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain!” from the Lerner & Loewe musical “My Fair Lady”.     Let’s not forget that Eliza has her admirer Freddy Eynsford-Hill who writes her “”sheets and sheets” of words of his praiseworthy devotion to her” !

Alan Jay Lerner A Lyricist’s Letters – Edited by Dominic McHugh

Alan Jay Lerner Letters

This book gives a Published date of September 01, 2014.   In December 2014 the Editor Dominic McHugh published a three-part article – “The Lerner Letters – In Part 1 he wrote about Lerner’s relationship with Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews;  In Part 2 the focus is on the correspondence between Lerner and Loewe ; and Part 3 “the unknown collaborators”.   It includes sharing Lerner had begun to be involved with The Phantom of the Opera but with his failing health had not been able to continue and that there had been talk of making a musical of My Man Godfrey.

Harry_Stradling-Audrey_Hepburn_in_My_Fair_LadyIf Lerner & Loewe sounds familiar here at AnchoredScraps.com —  last May  I blogged about Julie Andrews and Richard Burton from Camelot with “Tra la! It’s May! …”  which is another one of their musicals. And last August I had blogged about Lerner & Loewe being included in U.S. Stamps Commemorative issue – American Music Series – Broadway Songwriters set.  The image above upper left is the 1993 U.S. Stamp issues for “My Fair Lady” part of the Legends of American Music: Broadway Musicals.

The lyrics of Alan Jay Lerner includes My Fair Lady, Camelot, Gigi, Brigadoon, and Paint Your Wagon.

Thank you for joining me today for Alan Jay Lerner Letters.  Here’s to enjoying this Sunday in front of us – even if it includes rain and all!
