British History in Thirty-six Postage Stamps

British History in Thirty-six Postage Stamps is our blog title based on 2013 book “A History of Britain in Thirty-six Postage Stamps” by Chris West.

Whether you are wanting to linger over morning coffee / cup of tea  or if you find yourself rushing out the door today’s blog format fits both time schedules.

If you find yourself short of time today then you can bookmark and return when you have some time to truly enjoy an hour lecture of the author presenting about the book to a packed audience at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum.  And I have included a second fascinating stamp discussion the author participated at Strand Bookstore with James Hirschfeld.  Both of these videos were enjoyable to view and wanted to be sure to include today.

British History in Thirty-six Postage Stamps

In this YouTube lecture it is described as –  “The author of “A History of Britain in Thirty-six Postage Stamps” explored his country’s recent history through its most fascinating, beautiful, and eccentric postage stamps. From Queen Victoria’s Penny Black to the struggles of post-World War II reconstruction, West showed that stamps mirror the events, attitudes, and styles of their time. “

BritishHistoryBookInStampsCover“West shows that stamps have always mirrored the events, attitudes, and styles of their time. Through them, one can glimpse the whole epic tale of an empire unfolding.”
-from Goodreads description

And this is the second video mentioned above.   Here Chris West, the Author, chats about stamps with James Hirschfeld of Paperless Post, it is a 45 minute insightful conversation and includes some questions from the audience.

In learning more about this book I have noticed the author wrote in 2014 “A History of America in Thirty-six Postage Stamps” which we will cover in a future blog post, as well as Paperless Post in a future blog post too.

Here’s to enjoying a break from the normal routine – Happy Tuesday!
