Post Mark Collectors Club is our blog topic today exploring collecting postmarks and postal history – the group was founded in 1946. Happy Friday!
Today we are just covering some highlights. Their scope is massive and I can see returning in a future blog post to explore further.
Post Mark Collectors Club
From PMCC – “The Post Mark Collectors Club is organized to encourage postmark collecting and the study of postal history, and to provide support for the Museum and Library. The goal of the museum is to provide education about postmarks and preserve postmark history.”
“Today the club numbers approximately 400 members and provides services to many areas of postal history and postmark collecting.” The Post Office Directory is maintained by the PMCC and touted as “the most accurate list of Post Offices available” covering all 50 states, some Canadian provinces, and U.S. possessions. The PMCC Post Office Photographs page has 24,000 + photos of their PMCC Online Post Office Photo Collection. Be sure to check out their page of Philatelic Links.
National Postmark Museum
The PMCC Museum, first begun in 1957, is located in Historic Lyme Village, just east of Bellevue, Ohio. The Museum also has a Research Library available to club members for postal history research. You will want to go through the National Postmark Museum Virtual Tour.
From Wikipedia – “The Museum’s holdings make up the largest single Postmark collection in the world, grouping nearly two million different postal history items.” … “Along with postmarks and research materials, the Museum has a fine collection of vintage post office memorabilia. Special collections of postmark slogans, such as the “Pray for Peace” series are the highlights of the holdings.”
2016 PMCC Dates
The PMCC Museum Work Weeks – “All work within the museum is conducted by enthusiastic volunteers, primarily during PMCC Museum Work Weeks.” Their next Work Week is later this month – April 16 to 22, 2016.
The 55th PMCC Convention will be in Sarasota, FL August 01-04, 2016.
Thank you for joining me today for Post Mark Collectors Club. Here’s to having fun exploring!
