For our First Noel Letters Countdown Day 8, I’m thinking of The Bishop’s Wife Typewriter Scene. In addition, there two other scenes from the 1947 classic movie mentioning today. It stars Cary Grant, Loretta Young, and David Niven.
In the photo above it is from the scene where Cary Grant, the angel Dudley, tells the story of The 23rd Psalm, “The Lord is my Shepherd”. If the little girl in the movie looks familiar, she also played Zuzu Bailey, Karolyn Grimes, in the classic “It’s A Wonderful Life”.
“The Bishop’s Wife” includes a scene with Cary Grant dictating to the typewriter. I’m able to find images of all the scenes mentioning today except for the one with the typewriter! Using state of the art special effects for the time the typewriter keeps up with Dudley’s sermon he is writing on David Niven’s behalf. This is unknown to David Niven about him rewriting his sermon. The sermon at the end of the movie is a famous scene too.
And here in this YouTube Cary Grant leads the Boys’ Choir.
There are numerous wonderful scenes including the cab driver, along with Cary Grant and Loretta Young going ice skating, buying a hat, a snowball fight, and the list goes on.
I’m yearning to begin my Christmas movie marathon that includes some with old-style correspondence woven into the plots. Until then, there are still Christmas scrapbook pages to finish and a few more Christmas cards to send. Here’s to having extra energy with our remaining to-do’s this week in getting all done and ready for Christmas!
