We are wrapping up the work week on this Friday morning with Buddy Holly Novelty Pencils. Obviously, the image upper left is a “background of pencils … all lined up neatly”- to see the Buddy Holly Novelty Pencils just keep reading…
Here is a link to my blog post last year for February 3rd – Buddy Holly Handwritten Letter. Last year I shared the date – February 3, 1959 ‘is also referred to in Don McLean’s classic 1971 song American Pie as “the day the music died”.’ There is a YouTube that goes into the details of the small plane crash that took the lives of early rock icons Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson.

At the Buddy Holly Center, City of Lubbock, Texas the pencils in the online Shop are described as “Gold or Silver pencil decorated with Buddy Holly’s signature and musical notes in black.” They are priced at less than one dollar! What is not clear is if you get one or two, as the photo shows two pencils – so stay tuned!

Over at Pencils.com, you will enjoy reading a wonderful blog post from 2012 on this day – Words On a Page: Remembering The Day the Music Died; a story of his grandmother showing a box of mementos including “…a small notebook with the word “Autographs” embossed on its cover and my eyes lit up…”
In their Pencil News – there is an article from earlier this week with International Correspondence Writing Month 2017 (#InCoWriMo). I’m delighted to see they are not only encouraging others to participate but will be writing letters too!
Day 3 #InCoWriMo
In reading participants interests it was fun to read one person expressed how much they love pencils!
This is how my letter writing for InCoWriMo February 2017 is going so far. I’ve been taking a photo each day before having the letters trekked to the Post Office and will do the same today. Will include them with my blog post tomorrow, along with my final count of letters written today, given I’m posting this blog post early this morning.
February 01, 2017 – Day 1: hand wrote and mailed 5 letters [3 U.S.; 2 International]
February 02, 2017 – Day 2 (yesterday): hand wrote and mailed 5 letters [3 U.S.; 2 International].
Here’s to a great day ahead!
Anchors Aweigh,
Helen
