The Handcrafted Letter (2001) by Diane Maurer-Mathison

The Handcrafted Letter (2001) book sits on my bookcase and I’m enjoying looking through it again today. In addition, we have our first survey in our Series of Getting To Know You Better with our Letter Writing!   I’m excited we are here and looking forward to this fun special March journey together!

Before beginning, since writing my last blog post, the server has been migrated and I’ve tested out five additional survey WordPress Plugins for the survey I’m including at the end of this post!

The Handcrafted Letter

First, finding a copy of the hardcover is easily available.  In addition, the pricing for it is a bargain at many of these sites. Also, check out eBay as they are showing having several copies available for sale.

I’m including this excerpt from the write up of it.

“… Getting toPaper artist Diane Maurer-Mathison has used her design sense and expertise to create this stylish guide to preserving memories in beautiful, heirloom-quality cards and letters. Fully illustrated in color, “The Handcrafted Letter” covers it all.”

With the size at 8.25 inches x 8.25 inches square, it is a great size for easy reference.

Furthermore, the Table of Contents really does a great job of top level of what’s in the book: Rediscovering the Art of Letter Writing, Writing a Beautiful Letter, Letters to A Friend, Love Letters, Thank-You Cards and Letters, Letters to Children, Travel Letters and Postcards, Congratulatory Cards, Holidays and Special Occasions, Artful Envelopes, Making Decorative Paper.  Also, there is a Recommended Reading, and Supply Sources.

Next, you will enjoy looking at her website, Art & Books by Diane Maurer. At her site, it includes these categories: About The Artist, Paper Collage, Books, Events and Classes, and Earrings and Scarves.

Survey 1 We are looking at motivating factors for us writing a letter

The first aspect we are exploring to get your input is on Why People Are Writing Letters.  Think about what prompts you to write a letter.

Update from Helen: Am now using a different polling software plug-in, below is the survey as of 8:04 AM Eastern, March 8th.

This means if you submitted prior to 8:04 AM Monday, please go ahead and resubmit. The survey now includes area for including any comments with each of the questions.   In case you are wondering if you have taken it with the updated one, the good news is the below will only let you submit it once.
Thanks!

We are continuing our continuing our Getting to know you March 2021 Focus with our second survey. For this aspect of letter writing we are looking at What We Write With - our letter writing tools: Fountain Pens, Pencils, Laptops, & Typewriters! The purpose of our survey is getting to know you better with focus ares with our letter writing pursuits.

My everyday writing instrument of choice is:
I think of using a fountain pen as...
Do your pens (and/or pencils) disappear (similar to missing socks?)
When writing letters they are:
Do you have any typewriters?
In anticipation of upcoming National Pencil Day, March 30, do you prefer a pencil to pen?
Do you tend to splurge more on ink, pen refills, and/or different ink colors or stationery?
In the last year do you recall your favorite letter you wrote and sent?
Do you feel comfortable downloading printable PDFs, printing them, and using with your letter writing?

Thank you so much for participating. I'll be sharing the results in my Sunday blog post.  In addition, on Sunday will have one more survey for us which will circle back with its results Wednesday, March 31st.

As a reminder, on Wednesday I’ll share the results from this Survey.

I’m really looking forward to your participating and answers!
