“the Eagle has landed.”

“That’s one small step for man; one giant leap for mankind.”
– Neil Armstrong, first man to walk on the moon, Apollo 11 astronaut, July 20, 1969

What a great kick-off for the new week on AnchoredScraps.com! For those of us who recall watching the historic Apollo 11 mission live – I still pause to recall where I was at the time, remembering watching it with my family.  It is easy to still see the look of joy on my Dad’s face and his teary eyes – as they were on all of our faces, as we watched, cheered and celebrated together upon hearing Neil Armstrong’s famous quote live on the television.       In looking at highlights on YouTube today of the landing there is Walter Cronkite and the tears well up again for me when watching.

From the Postal Museum page on the First Man On The Moon Postage Stamp:  “While few events compare to the famous actions of Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin Aldrin, Jr, during the Apollo 11 mission, the release of the stamp celebrating the Moon landing marked an important event for the philatelic world.  The stamp, released on September 9, 1969, was made from the same master die that the astronauts took with them to the moon.  Additionally, it was the largest stamp the United States had issued up to that point.”  (On Twitter @PostalMuseum)

There is a Kickstarter campaign that was announced today by the Smithsonian Museum to #RebootTheSuit.  “A chance for citizens of Earth to conserve, digitize, and display Neil Armstrong’s Apollo 11 spacesuit for explorers everywhere.”

On Daryl’s Space Collection website, this link will take you to a great collection of Apollo First Day Covers – for Apollo 11 there are 12 different covers shown!

When thinking of the Apollo 11 mission I still think of goal setting with extraordinaire results!  And am at a loss for words to convey to my nieces and nephews who have only read about it/seen it on replays to truly convey the emotions felt with it.   I’m going to need to put this one with pen to paper and actually write them, not email it, not a phone call, but make the time to actually write!   Maybe you will too?
