Today is Agatha Christie’s birthday, born on September 15, 1890, she would have been 125 years old!
She is the creator of some fantastic characters in her books – especially with Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple.
Agatha Christie Prestige Stamp Booklet
It was fun to come across “Detective Fiction on Stamps” – it “is a relatively small topic, but at least three dozen countries have issued postage stamps (and other philatelic items) which are connected to or commemorating fictional detectives, their creators or cinematic portrayals.”
From that page it led to the “British Royal Mail Agatha Christie Prestige Stamp Booklet — for which no Agatha Christie stamp was issued”. The Prestige Booklet cover from March 19, 1991 is shown on the web page and includes a whole series of cover cancels (see the one on the right) celebrating the Centenary of Agatha Christie. It appears to have been a competition – “Trace the Alias Competition” – with the complete booklet (SG DX12). I’m wanting to explore getting an actual copy of this, I found this listing and will be investigating ebay this week and other sources. It is still a mystery to me so stay tuned!

I’m recalling summers reading almost the entire Miss Marple series and am reminded I need to figure out which ones I still need to read, and look at her entire catalog again. What better way to conclude today’s blog post than with our own bit of sleuthing to locate an actual COPY of the Stamp Booklet referenced above – here’s to our exercising our little grey cells!
