Welcome to a new week at AnchoredScraps.com. There are two articles you may have missed seeing that praise old fashioned letter writing that I wanted to share today.
First, there is this from September 15, 2015 – the Los Angeles Times had this article entitled: “The art of handwritten letters is alive and well, thank you“. It was brought to my attention from this Tweet from The Friday Collective @fricollective (image of that tweet on right)
The article includes talking about the L.A. Pen Pal Club and describes some of the members who participate. One of the members includes one of the founders of the Chicago-based Letter Writers Alliance – we first wrote about the Letter Writers Alliance on April 08 in my blog post: “National Card and Letter Writing Month celebrates with “From Me to You”’ and were also referenced on April 16, and April 27.
“They hunt down and stockpile eye-catching, uncanceled vintage stamps. They practice calligraphy and learn to make lovely swirls. They seek out small-batch letterpress stationery. Their artfully addressed envelopes, adorned with enough old postage to meet today’s rates, is fit for a hotel bellboy’s tray in a Wes Anderson film…”
While this next article may not be as recent as the first article, the Tweet that brought it to my attention is, from September 04. (image of that Tweet on left).
It is about an article posted earlier in the year over at the Huffington Post, on January 11, 2015:
9 Reasons Not To Abandon The Art Of The Handwritten Letter.
The article goes into detail for each of these 9 reasons:
“They create lasting memories…
They show how much you care…
They make you feel good…
They make every word count…
They spark creativity…
They require your undivided attention…
They require unplugging…
They honor tradition…
They’re Timeless…”
I’m delighted to have come across these two articles and hope you will have fun reading them. It should prove motivating to dust off your pen and paper and find your stash of stamps!
