Quilled Paper Heart stamps available

Included in my January 1st blog post here was mention of the Postal Service Previews 2016 Stamps which includes the Quilled Paper Heart Stamp.   It is the 44th inductee into the Postal Service’s Love stamp series.  The First-Day-of-Issue ceremony was held yesterday at Dallas Love Field Airport, January 12 in Dallas, TX.

“The stamp art features an elegant heart created using the ancient art of quilling. Quilling involves rolling and shaping narrow strips of paper, laying them on their edges, and gluing them in place to form intricate designs. The heart shape in the center of the stamp art is made from paper strips of many colors and is surrounded by white paper swirls on a white background…”

At the USPS.com web site the stamps are available for purchase.   My experience the past few months of stamps not always being available immediately when they are released has found their website to be a good backup plan if your local Post Office does not immediately have them in stock.

“In 2016, the U.S. Postal Service® issues another stamp in its popular Love series, Quilled Paper Heart. Quilling—also called paper filigree—involves rolling and shaping narrow strips of paper, laying them on their edges, and gluing them in place to form intricate designs. The origin of the name “quilling” is obscure, but it might have come from the first tool used to create the paper curls, the base of a feather or quill.”
