Remembering Alan Rickman & “Bottle Shock”

Dear AnchoredScraps.com blog reader,

Today I have been Remembering Alan Rickman & “Bottle Shock” movie from 2008.    It was very sad to learn of the British actor passing away today at such a young age of 69 from cancer.

BottleShockDVDImageThe movie “Bottle Shock” is based on the historic 1976 wine competition between California wine and French wine in a blind taste test.   It stars Alan Rickman, Bill Pullman, and Chris Pine.

Of course I will continue to re-watch him in some of his classic movies – “Die Hard” as the criminal mastermind villain Hans Gruber, “Love Actually”, “Sense and Sensibility” with him as the older Colonel Brandon in a favorite scene in that film with him finding Marianne (Kate Winslet) and he carries her back in his arms in the pouring rain, and all of the Harry Potter movies too.

Remembering Alan Rickman & “Bottle Shock”

If you ever saw the movie “Bottle Shock” it is one you will want to pull out again and re-watch, and if you have not seen it, please make plans to watch it this weekend.  I’m recalling my good friend Tally had first told me about this movie when it came out.  In looking around today at articles about the film itself, I did come across a few comments that the movie deviated from ‘just the facts’ and there were embellishments, however, all were quick to point out the basic premises of the movie are true.

In the second YouTube below it includes Alan Rickman quoting from Galileo Galilei all with a bucket of KFC chicken.

“‘Wine is sunlight, held together by water.’ The poetic wisdom of the Italian physicist, philosopher, and stargazer, Galileo Galilei. It all begins with the soil, the vine, the grape. The smell of the vineyard – like inhaling birth. It awakens some ancestral, some primordial… anyway, some deeply imprinted, and probably subconscious place in my soul.”
-Steven Spurrier, Bottle Shock

Alan Rickman was truly talented and I will miss not seeing him in future movies.  Although I did read he had just finished Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass and is the voice of the character Absolem, the Caterpillar; the movie is set to be released by Walt Disney Pictures on May 27, 2016.

RIP Alan Rickman  February 21, 1946 – January 14, 2016.
