On this Sunday, January 8, we are looking at two Battle of New Orleans stamps.  We’ve got tied into it Yul Brynner, and Charlton Heston in The Buccaneer 1958 film and Johnny Horton to go with it.

Also, here is a link to my blog post last year on this day for Elvis Presley’s birthday.

The image on right is the 1965 5c stamp Battle of New Orleans honoring “…the 150th anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans.  It pictures General Andrew Jackson leading his men against those of Sir Edward Packenham. Also shown is the Battle of New Orleans Sesquicentennial medal designed by Angela Gregory.”

Two years ago the Forever US stamp, The War of 1812: Battle of New Orleans was issued on January 08, 2015.  They are still available for sale at the USPS.com store online.

Earlier this week we had the North to Alaska Statehood 1984 stamp which included a reference to the John Wayne movie “North to Alaska”, and the Johnny Horton song with the same title.   Today includes reference to another Johnny Horton song, from 1959, actually the number 1 song for 1959 according to Billboard – “The Battle of New Orleans”.

“The Buccaneer” 1958 film

There is a little over 10-minute Movie Trailer for the 1958 movie, The Buccaneer I’m including today.

If you haven’t seen this movie yet, be sure to get it into the queue for when having a movie marathon!

This week I’m going to make a point of using some of these 2015 The War of 1812: Battle of New Orleans Forever stamps on my outgoing letters.  See if you don’t find yourself adding some of these stamps to your collection of stamps for mailing!
