Ellsworth Kelly stamps arriving May 31, 2019

In the USPS Postal Bulletin today it includes announcing the Ellsworth Kelly stamps arriving May 31, 2019.

If you can be in Spencertown, NY on May 31, 2019, you could make arrangements prior to attend the first day of issue ceremony.  The stamps are calling out to me that while they are for First-Class Forever mail rate, they are going to look amazing on some of the postcards and notecards we have been looking at here at AnchoredScraps over the past few years!

They are issuing 10 designs, in a pane of 20 stamps, noting the Ellsworth Kelly stamps cannot be sold individually.

“This stamp issue honors artist Ellsworth Kelly (1923–2015). Kelly pioneered a distinctive style of abstraction based on real elements reduced to their essential forms. His artworks include paintings, sculpture, and works on paper.”

Furthermore, I’m including this from Linn’s Stamp News article on Ellsworth Kelly ceremony at artist’s Spencertown studio which gives details.  Also, it includes mentioning the USPS “encourages advance ceremony registration at www.usps.com/ellsworthkelly.”

I’m including the below excerpt from the Postal Bulletin. In addition, I’m grouping the entire list into paragraph format.

This stamp issue honors artist Ellsworth Kelly (1923–2015). Kelly pioneered a distinctive style of abstraction based on real elements reduced to their essential forms. His artworks include paintings, sculpture, and works on paper. The 20 stamps on the pane feature 10 pieces, each represented twice:

Yellow White (1961), Colors for a Large Wall (1951), Blue Red Rocker (1963), Spectrum I (1953), South Ferry (1956), Blue Green (1962), Orange Red Relief (for Delphine Seyrig) (1990), Meschers (1951), Red Blue (1964), and Gaza (1956). A detail from Blue Yellow Red III (1971) appears in the selvage.

Derry Noyes served as art director and designer for this issuance.”

Stationery options I’m thinking of pairing with the Ellsworth Kelly stamps

First, the Marimekko 100 Postcards Card Book & Marimekko Unikko Notecards Stationery (4-29-2017) comes to mind for using the Ellsworth Kelly stamps on them.

Also, I’m recalling my post on Discovering Pantone Postcard Book (5-15-2018).

In checking the USPS Postal Store just now, I’m not finding the Ellsworth Kelly stamps listing for pre-ordering. However, I know it will be out there soon! In the meantime, I’m really looking forward to their arrival!

Join me tomorrow for my Friday blog post, as we head into the last weekend in April 2019!
