This blog post has gone to the dogs, literally with the Hanover Kennel Club Dog Show Pictorial Postmark; their Dog Show is today and tomorrow in Wilmington, N.C.
We are looking at details for requesting the Pictorial Postmark, as well as the stamps from the 1984 100th Anniversary of the American Kennel Club given that is what I’m putting onto my envelope cachets.
First, if you are new to my daily letter writing blog, you may not be familiar with the term Pictorial Postmark; it is a hand cancel commemorating a special event through the USPS, usually with the date and related image. In addition, one can “dress up” their envelope (cachet) with corresponding theme designs.
Over at Mystic Stamp Company, the U.S. #2098-2101, 20¢ Dogs Stamps, are available. Issue Date: September 7, 1984.
“This block of four stamps was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the American Kennel Club. Designed by Roy Anderson, each stamp illustrates some of America’s most popular dog breeds.”

Furthermore, from the USPS Postal News this week: U.S. Postal Service to Offer Pets Stamps and Special Cancellation at Wilmington Dog Show.
“WILMINGTON, NC — The U.S. Postal Service will offer Pets Forever Stamps for sale and a special pictorial postmark cancellation, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Oct. 14, during the Hanover Kennel Club’s annual all-breed dog show at Legion Stadium.
“The Postal Service offers pictorial cancellations to commemorate local events celebrated in communities throughout the nation,” said Wilmington Postmaster Chris Spann. “We are excited to be part of this event in our community and offer these stamps to pet owners and stamp enthusiasts.” …

In conclusion, I love that we can be requesting these Pictorial Postmarks from the convenience of our homes, and on our time frame – as long as “requests must be postmarked no later than 30 days following the requested pictorial postmark date.”
